Consign It!Why Consign? One consignor cites these reasons for consigning your unwanted items: The consignor does all the work. They use their resources to store, display, advertise and sell your items. You get more visibility and (allegedly) a better price. Most showrooms try to bring out the best in your items but that's store by store. Most take major credit cards and some offer buyer incentives like gift certificates, coupons and store credit. Store owners say it's easy, convenient and free of hassles to consign. The consignor doesn't have to deal with strangers and haggle over price. There's no delivery with some stores because they have pick-up services (usually understandably for a fee). This can be especially valuable when dealing with larger items like furniture. Most stores do some forms of advertising which in turn increases traffic and potential buyers for you. Store owners are well aware of the importance of location, but not all can either afford 'the best location' or they may not make the best choices. You'll know when you visit the store. Security is another reason cited for consigning vs other forms of sale. Of course you won't have strangers coming to your house and you may get a bad check (but it's easy enough not to accept checks if you're selling at a garage sale, flea market or street corner).
